Claremont McKenna College

Claremont McKenna College is one of nation’s top liberal arts colleges, attracting a diverse and accomplished student body beyond the classroom. Located on a scenic, tree-lined residential campus 30 miles east of Los Angeles, Claremont McKenna is a member of The Claremont Colleges, a seven-college consortium modeled after Oxford University.

Renowned for their expertise in economics and government, the campus hosts over 8,400 students, 3,000 faculty and staff members and is over 69 acres, with 11 Research Institutes. The Kravis Center (seen below) consists of a five-level, 162,000 square foot academic and administrative facility, serving as the western gateway to the Claremont McKenna campus.

GLASS

With a large number of glass surfaces to maintain and a high degree of expectations as to the level of that maintenance, the facilities team at Claremont McKenna was challenged by the recurring costs of cleaning the glass surfaces and looked for solutions that would help them maintain and protect their appearance.

“After much research, my analysis led me to Diamon-Fusion”, explained Brian Worley, Director of Facilities and Campus Services at Claremont McKenna. Through DFI’s patented nano-coating process, the treatment to the glass facade creates a water-repellent effect, which enables ease of cleaning and protection against scratches, abrasion and environmental elements – significantly reducing the overall costs of maintenance to the building.

After the glass was cleaned to a pristine condition, Diamon-Fusion protective coating was applied to over 15,000 square feet of glass at various sections of the newly constructed Kravis Center (seen in the picture above), designed by the well-known architect Rafel Viñoly-Menendez.

Upon completion of the Kravis Center Diamon-Fusion was also applied to a beautiful, all-glass-structure called “the Kube”. It is situated in the courtyard area of the campus, representing a unique and inspiring work of art.

“I was so impressed with the outcome of the project that I incorporated Diamon-Fusion coating to other projects around the campus. I have cut my window cleaning by 50% and have saved $12k-$14k per year since the low-maintenance coating was applied.” – Brian Worley | Director of Facilities and Campus Services
